Three Sleep Myths You Should Stop Believing
When it comes to catching some shut-eye, some easily float off into a deep sleep while others need some help getting a good night's rest. There are a variety of ways in which people can improve their ability to fall asleep quickly as well as how to have a restful night. While there are some facts about sleep we all know are true, there are many harmful misconceptions out there. In a bid to better understand your sleep, take a look at some of the most common myths. Misconceptions About Sleeping  Myth: You only dream in a very deep sleep. You can dream in all stages of sleep. However, dreams tend to be the most vivid during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which happens during a lighter cycle of sleep. Myth: You can catch up on missed sleep by sleeping in on the weekends. Although it does sound quite logical, research has found that trying to make up for lost sleep over the weekend won't reverse any negative effects that a lack of sleep during the week causes. Instead, it's better to maintain a consistent schedule of 7 to 9 hours a night. Myth: More sleep is always better. There is such a thing of sleeping for too long. Oversleeping is linked to major health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and depression. It can also end up causing headaches, and might increase your chance of being overweight. Did you fall for these sleep myths?
